Crazy Quilt Quarterly Summer Issue is Out!
One of my favorite publications (and not just because I’m on the staff, LOL) is Crazy Quilt Quarterly, published by Pam Kellogg of Kitty and Me Designs. Well, the new summer issue is out, and the cover girl is the one and only Betty Pillsbury (I just *love* her!!). Betty has works in the Smithsonian (did you know that?). Her CQ style is usually very traditional - what I would call an updated, modern Victorian. She can embroider, bead, made silk flowers, appliqué, and just about any other technique you could think of! Now, with her piece in CQ Quarterly (previously unpublished), she uses shibori ribbon for suns rays in her Stonehenge-like setting.
This issue is crammed with great tutorials, articles and patterns. And did I mention eye candy? No Crazy Quilter worth her salt should miss it! :-)

The Autumn Issue of CQ Quarterly is Available!
And what a FANTASTIC issue this is! It’s jam packed with ideas and tutorials to complete all sorts of motifs and projects with an autumn theme. Take a look at that gorgeous cover by Connie Eyberg!!
(And yes, I even have a little piece in this; an embroidered spider who has in turn “embroidered” a web on a lamppost in Paris. What has the spider embroidered? An Eiffel Tower, of course!)

Etsy Shop, Guest Blogging & GIVEAWAY
Woo-hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!! There’s so much good news to share! So grab a cuppa, sit down and relax! I’ve finally taken the plunge and opened an Etsy Shop!!!! So, now we’re all going to party like CRAZY quilters, or CRAZY stitchers, or whatever your CRAZY thang is!!
NEW ETSY SHOP
Cathy’s CRAZY by Design (http://cathyscrazybydesign.etsy.com) will be open for business on Thursday, July 1. I’m going to feature my Golden Laces (venice and other laces dyed with potassium permanganate). If you’ve ever seen the Australian publications, or the work of Jenny Haskins or Judith & Kathryn, you are probably familiar with these unusual, lustrous, YUMMY laces. Whenever I take them to a CQ conference, they sell out.
I’ll also be offering you some of my great vintage finds: vintage laces, vintage trims, vintage linens, and other whimseys. And regular laces and trims. And to round it out, I’ll have lots of farmgirl-type aprons (with denim bibs) and cute and kicky contemporary aprons for women and girls. Some will be sedate and tame, others will be fun and wild! Full aprons, half aprons, and aprons you can “cook” in (but not necessarily in the kitchen, ahem, if you catch my drift....). It’ll likely take me a couple weeks to get up to speed and get it all listed, but it’s a-comin’!!
THE GIVEAWAY
So, let’s all celebrate! I’m going to have a fun giveaway for YOU, with two prize packages. First, let’s take a look at what I’ve put together.
Weekend in Paris?? Well, not quite! But how about a lovely framed print of Paris, a little ceramic Eiffel tower bud vase, rose-scented imported Italian (pretend it’s French) soap in tulle, a vintage mother of pearl button, a vintage embroidered hankie, a vintage crocheted fan, a “golden” dyed fleur-de-lis, and some vintage baby blue trim (around the “tower”). All you need to furnish is the wine and candles!!!
Ah, but maybe you’re more the type to get right to creating. If so, how about some golden lace?
Over the years I’ve learned that different laces take the potassium permanganate in different ways. That is true of most dyeing, I’m sure. The golden sheen is most apparent on rayon venice lace. Some modern venices are part rayon and part OTHER. And some of the laces I dye are cotton, which don’t have a sheen at all, just a nice light (ranging to dark) color. The lace prize is all that’s pictured above, plus several items that I’ll add (at least 3 more nice ones, bringing it to a dozen pieces).

My third wonderful announcement is that I’ve been asked by Pam Kellogg of Kitty & Me Designs to be her first featured guest blogger. That post is happening today, July 1, 2010. Woo-hoo, again! If you don’t know Pam (which I doubt, because EVERYONE knows and loves Pam), hop on over to her blog (as soon as you’re done here!). Pam is an amazing crazy quilter, designer, and former cross-stitch pattern designer (well-published, I might add). Her Etsy shop was my inspiration to open my own shop (because I spent so much money there, I had to gain another source of income) because her creations are so gorgeous! And she is my new BFF!!!

Stitching, Goodies & Something Cute
It's hard to title a post when it's a hodgepodge of STUFF. I probably should've divided it up into different posts, but it's the weekend, and blogging time is at a premium.
A couple days ago I received a wonderful package in the mail from my friend Pam Kellogg of Kitty & Me Designs. We've talked about our mutual fondness for vintage embroidery transfers, and in fact it was Pam that got me started on it about two years ago. So, after finding some duplicates in her collection, she was kind enough to share!
Pam is so sweet! She also included some trims.... and a surprise! Another fondness we share is for Marie Antoinette, and she surprised me with one of her M.A. pins. She sells these in her Etsy shop along with so many of her other wonderful things. Thank you, dear Pam!
We've had rain and very cool weather the last couple days, and I've enjoyed curling up in the evening with my DH and cat, a cup of coffee, and some stitching. I've been working on a wool block for a Crazy Quilting International round robin. Karrin appliqued baskets onto her blocks, and the previous stitchers have all filled their baskets with wonderully-stitched flowers.
This week's "Build-a-Stitch" challenge at CQI was the Buttonhole Eyelet Flower. Kerry has links to tutorials on her blog, but I first "noticed" it on Sharron Boggon's blog and tried to recreate it from memory. Of course, my memory being what it is (or, more acurately, what it ISN'T), I did a larger buttonhole center and cast-on stitch petals (top petals).
After discovering my error, I tried one below it with bullion stitches, but my center was still too big. The third (smallest) flower had a smaller center, but the bullions are all "drunken" and yukky. My eyes were about crossed by then. Maybe I just need to tickle their tummies...... hmmmm. So, three versions..... with no centers, YET. I will add the centers and post a picture of the completed block in the next day or two. I still have to stitch some sort of "critter" to harmonize with the other baskets. No one's done a dragonfly yet, so I'm thinking that I'll do that.
On Wednesday, I hit the thrift store again, and while I didn't get much of blogging interest (unless you want to see a picture of a display rack, butter knife and bias tape), I did score some great fabrics. They're all gleaned from sheets, an idea which I got from another blogger (don't remember where, sorry) who supplements her fabrics for kid's clothing with vintage or vintage-like sheets and pillowcases.
That polka dot sheet was like new - still stiff with sizing - and came from The Pottery Barn. The blue gingham with lace was one of a pair of never-used handmade pillowcases, too. I can see some cute little upcycled girls' summer dresses here....
And speaking of cute and little girls, here is a Shameless Grandma Boast about my DGD London.
London has learned to crawl (yeah, I know. She's 9 months old, so that's not exactly early or unexpected, LOL). She's been crawling for about three weeks, but for the first two, this "crab-style" crawl was how she cruised around. Her left leg is bent, but her right leg stays straight. She got quite good at this, then it finally occurred to her that she could bend both legs, She trucks around now like crazy.
And this was her a couple days ago as we prepared to go shopping. Her feet are constantly "dancing". And that tongue! She loves music and if it's playing, she'll bounce or kick depending on whether she's sitting or standing. Aren't babies so precious!!!
