OMG! Saguaro Sunset Finished!

Wow, I did it! I finished Saguaro Sunset on schedule and in time to join in the finish link-up for our January OMG (One Monthly Goal). Yes, I’m doing a happy dance here!

Saguaro Sunset is backed with a cactus print and some solid Kona that I picked up at JoAnn’s (no picture). The “batting” is just a piece of flannel, since this its recipients live in Arizona and don’t need heft or warmth. I quilted it with simple vertical wavy lines (maybe we could pretend it’s radiating heat?) It washed up beautifully and crinkly as you can see. The wonkiness is just due to the way we pinned it up on the design board. The finished dimensions are 58x70”. This is my second finish for January.

You can see lots of other great January OMG finishes over at Elm Street Quilts, where we’re all linking up our finished goals for the month.

Saguaro Sunset was also Goal #3 on my 1st Quarter 2019 Finish-Along list, which is HERE.

That turned out great, Cathy! I always love what the quilting does for the design - all that texture. Love Bruce's t-shirt, too - I was a 5th grade teacher, so I know all about the squirrels of that type!

What a wonderful quilt. And dogs run in your family...not squirrels. Actually, squirrels run from your family!

Gorgeous quilt! Congrats on a wonderful finish. I'm working on a UFO for a sewing group and it's a lot more labor intensive than I remembered from the last time I worked on it! It occurs to me that I don't have any finishes for January. I better do some quilting tonight!

See, Julierose has the right idea. The pale yellow at the bottom that bothered you so much is desert sand. It looks great and the recipients should love it.

YAY!!! And Saguaro Sunset turned out fantastic!!!
I had to chuckle at Bruce's purchase. It brought back a memory from years ago. I was living with and taking car of my dad. He wanted to go to his cabin which at that time of year would be absolutely perfect if you like baking in 98 degree temperatures with only a couple of fans to cool you down. Two of my kids were coming up as well, with their friends. As I was driving through the city on our way, Highway to Hell come on the radio...I was thinking, gosh I hope that isn't an omen. Long story short, it was an omen. But as time passes, every time I hear that song, it brings back memories of living with my dad, I miss him so much!

Congrats! The lucky recipients will now always have a beautiful sunset to view any time day or night. Hopefully the cactus won't make them prickly.

The thumbnail on your link-up attracted me to your quilt. I thought it looked all shimmery. So those wavy lines you quilted must really work. Those are some lucky recipients!
