So, I did get some orange sewing done; the operative word being SOME.
I really thought I had tons of orange vintage sheets, but I must have sold most of them. So, from what I had reserved for my stash, I was able to only get 7 orange rail fence blocks.
Then I decided to pin up all the blocks done so far on the design board, and that picture is below. I am totally underwhelmed. But it’s still early days, and we have the fun colors of pink, green and yellow yet to come - and I have plenty of those colors. Plus I have so many mixed-color and pastel-mix sheets, so I may have to see where those take me. Maybe this will not end up as a chevron/zig-zag rainbow pattern in the end.
I decided to do the Dresdens early in the month this time. I have sewn two, but the one below is the only finished one. The other one needs to be appliquéd onto the background block and then have all the fussy middle stuff done.
This one is on the pale yellow and I couldn’t get a decent picture. The other one will be on a pink background. The orange does not lend itself to a vintage-y feel. So, I’m just going to continue along with pale pink and yellow (and maybe other) backgrounds as we visit all the colors this year. In the end, we will see how many blocks there are and what they can become. Previous plans aborted. There is a lot of that going on around here.
No progress on the Cityscape this week, so nothing new to show there. Hopefully this coming week will be quieter. I’m linking up to Angela at Scrappy Saturday. Why not join us and check out all the orange eye candy...
ooooo the dresden.... makes me want to make one!
ReplyDeleteI can usually resist Dresdens (despite the fact it was one of my grandmother's favorite blocks), but this orange one is sooooo beautiful! Love it!
ReplyDeleteAnd I believe you can't judge a quilt until all the blocks are done, so carry on with those rail fences. It might just end up being your favorite quilt!
Gorgeous dresden!! Hang in there with the rail fence blocks - like you say, many more colors yet to come.
ReplyDeleteThe grands surely MUST be worth giving up some sewing time!! There will be OTHER days to sew.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Dresden plate. I like the rail fence layout so far. It will be interesting to see how that develops as the year wears on.
ReplyDeletewow another wonderderful dresden plate.
ReplyDeleteI love that doily you used as the Dresden center. I think orange sheets would keep me awake all night and/or give me nightmares. Hmmm, on second thought...that didn't happen in the 70s when I slept on orange sheets in a room with orange walls. (yucky).
ReplyDeleteI love your Dresden plate block. I love the look of the dresden's. Unfortunately, I don't particularly like to applique them. I guess I need more practice!
ReplyDeleteSorry I got sidetracked onto your rant. Stick to your guns, girl. Your Dresden is lovely in orange. I did a IgAg rainbow rail fence last year and it was such a hit. Yours will be. Rey lovely with the vintage fabrics. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great addition to your dresdens! Are these doilies family heirlooms? They really do work well with these blocks!
ReplyDeleteI always look forward to seeing your Dresdens every week! Your orange one is so pretty! Being a 70s bride, I had lots of orange sheets. I'm going to have to look and see if there are any around here anymore!
ReplyDeleteThat orange dresden is pretty eye-catchy. Your orange blocks do remind me of a set or orange/yellow flowered sheets we had. I hate to say it, but I think I used it to wrap one of the dogs when he died. Oh why did I tell you that!!, lol.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a great time with London. Dang kids make your day, don't they.
xx, Carol
Always good to see your Dredsens coming up on the post and this lovely orange one is no exception, great variety of fabrics in there.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful blocks. Your rail fence blocks are fun. Love that Dresden Plate block!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Dredsen! Make me want to try one.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be able to produce much in orange in my stash either. It's not a colour I feel comfortable working with for some reason.
