I’ve been dealing with a sore molar for a couple weeks. I held off going to the dentist because we had our semi-annual cleanings scheduled for this week on Wednesday. So yeah, when I sat in the chair for my cleaning, the exam showed that the molar was broken in half. An achey-breaky tooth! I got the cleaning done, and the next day I went back for a root canal, crown AND had one of my wisdom teeth pulled (now I have only one left). Wow - five hours in the dentist’s chair! All I can say is thank goodness for laughing gas and numbing shots. I had a great time, and I’m not even kidding! I have to go back in two weeks so they can check on the healing of my gums where the wisdom tooth was, and for them to replace another old crown that needs it (no root canal). 💸
The funny thing is that the drilling of the root canal reminded me of being home because the day before, the contractors demolished our old stone fireplace (complete with lichens that grew on the stones). We’re in the midst of the living room remodel. We are also updating both bathrooms, one at a time of course.

So all of that has been going on while I’ve been trying to get some sewing done. I managed, over the last two-three weeks, to finish sewing and trimming 60 string blocks (6.5”) for Quilts for Kids.
Do you see any fabrics that are familiar to you? Anyway, I was pleased at how much room this cleared in my brown scrap bin. I think I may continue to work on dark neutrals in November for the
Rainbow Scrap Challenge.
My friend Ruby will be spending several days quilting next week, so she challenged me to get as many tops and backs done this week as possible to keep her busy. Of course she did. As if construction, dentist AND writing the monthly HOA newsletter weren’t enough.
So here’s a picture of the pile of three flimsies and backs that I have done at the moment.
Top: Bright on Black frogs with lots of coordinating strips. Fabric donation courtesy of Wanda.
Middle: Veggie Garden Strippie with yellow and red accents
Bottom: Hollow Nines (an RSC project for this year) plus a coordinating bright-on-black print.
I’ll show the actual finishes next week if all goes to plan. Then there’s this chicken quilt fabric that was screaming at me (clucking at me?) to get it done. It still needs a couple rows and the borders attached, but it’ll be ready for Ruby to take when she gets here on Sunday for our Church of Bernina sewing day.
Today (Friday as I write this post) I wrote the monthly newsletter for our HOA. So between that and this blog post, I’m just about out of words. But even with all the noise, aches, dust, chores and words, life is good!
oh - ouch! I know I have at least one cracked tooth and live in trepidation of what's to come. I suspect I'll have to have them pulled because we have no coverage for root canals. Our previous dentist insisted I needed two root canals right away and quoted me well over a thousand dollars per tooth (that was about ten years ago so I hate to think what they'd cost now). Changed dentists and when I mentioned the need for root canals he laughed and said there's no way I needed them. Sure made me wonder if the previous dentist was just in it for the money.
ReplyDeletewell I was in the dental chair for 3 hours last week so I sure do feel your pain - I hope they gave you a bathroom break, after three hours I almost ran down the hall to the bathroom. Dental work is so high now even with insurance
ReplyDeleteThis will seem "out of left field", but did the bathroom border ever bother you due to the fact that it's upside down?
ReplyDeleteI found a large piece of sheeting that's thin enough to use as string foundations, and you've inspired me to go through the bucket of browns (literally--I put all the excess brown fabrics in an empty kitty litter bucket while sorting through and organizing a large donation) and crank out a string quilt.

Owwie! Root canals are the scariest! I have one crown and that was as much as I could stand, it was done over 2 days and I walked around with a square pigmy tooth for a week between appointments, It was the weirdest feeling.
ReplyDeleteAfter the fireplace and the bathroom how much more remodeling/renovating will you have to do? Glad the dental work went smoothly (if expensively). I consider dental insurance a discount rather than actual insurance.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you've had quite a week! I'm impressed that all that work on your mouth could be done in two days. I cracked a molar in June and it took all the way through September to get all the work done on it. Looks like things are progressing on the remodel. I'll enjoy the "after" photos! Pretty brown strings, too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a busy time you've had,and still having with the ongoing remodeling projects. I don't envy your many hours in the dentist chair at all.
ReplyDeleteThree quilt tops is a respectable number and a lot more than most would even attempt! I'm curious to see the new fireplace - I like the natural idea of rocks, but lichens maybe not so much... And the dentist - ugh! I've been blessed with good teeth (knock on wood), but still dread my visits there. I always worry they'll find something I'm not expecting. But I suppose seeing up quilts provides a nice distraction from the worry.
ReplyDeleteSending lots of good wishes for good results from the dental visits and for the agony of remodeling. Our two bathrooms took, from the first proposal in late April, til what I consider done, last Friday. There are still some final punch list things and then the final payment. May I never have to do that again!.
