Family Things and Some Sewing

I’m trying to keep my eyes open as I write this blogpost on Friday night. It’s been a busy week and I’m exhausted. 

Tomorrow (Saturday) we leave for our Grandson Easton’s wedding at a vineyard/resort in Hyde Park, just north of Logan. It’s a 2-hour drive. We’ve reserved a hotel room so we can enjoy the special day, party hardy (or in the case of us seniors, “party hardly”). The family, minus the newlyweds who will be jetting off to Italy, will meet for breakfast the next morning, then drive home afterwards. After all that driving and partying and eating, I told hubby Bruce that he has a choice of cereal or peanut butter and jelly for dinner on Sunday!  

Yesterday my daughter Megan arrived in town from Seattle. It’s been almost five years since I’ve seen her. She stayed with Bruce and me last night and after brunch at a restaurant, we did some pre-wedding errands together today before I dropped her off at her dad’s house. We’ll see her all weekend at the wedding event(s). 

I sewed thirty pink string blocks this week, pink being the color of the month for April in the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. Not much to see, but the 2 sets of 15 blocks (6.5”) will go into two quilt kits for Quilts for Kids. 

I also finished up the second pink Rolling Stone block.

And last but not least, I finally finished attaching the label and, with the help of Cousin Kim as the photographer and Ruby as my fellow quilt holder-upper, we got some final shots of the wedding quilt for Easton and Madalyn.

The quilt finished at 80 x 96”. The backing is a solid batik in teal. The quilting is a large wave-like curl pattern (that I wish we’d made a bit smaller and tighter, but oh well). 

This week I attended (by phone) the probate hearing for my late brother Steve’s estate and was formally named as his Personal Representative. Once the official paperwork arrives from the court, hopefully in the next week, we can move on to the next steps; house sale closing, personal and estate tax returns and closing all his bank and utility accounts. I still have a list of things to do as long as my arm, but this was the gateway to getting all the rest done. I’m beginning to exhale a bit with every step that brings me closer to the end of this nightmare.
